Bilingual web content management system
Syml, a bilingual website management system, will allow you to modify, update and expand your website, even if you have no experience of web design or programming. As long as you are a reasonably competent user of a word processor such as MS Word or OpenOffice Writer, you should be able to get to grips with Syml very quickly. Half a day's training is recommended for new users, and a comprehensive 19-page user manual is supplied with every installation. Ongoing email and telephone support is also available.
'Syml' is the Welsh word for 'simple', chosen to capture both the easy-to-use and the bilingual aspects of the website management software. Syml is based around a small word processor with which you edit the text and images in your website. The entire system is an integral part of the website meaning that there is no need to install any new software on your computer, and that you can use the Syml from anywhere in the world provided you have a computer with an internet connection. Once your new website is up and running you can simply log into Syml, using a username and password supplied to you during training, and browse through the various menus and pages. You can add new text and images, exactly the same as using a word processor, and then press the 'Submit' button. Your changes will appear on the website instantly.
Syml is fully bilingual, allowing for identical content to be displayed in English and Welsh. Extended character support is built-in allowing accented letters to be displayed correctly, including the conventionally troublesome Welsh ŵ and ŷ. An Automatic Translation Service can also be supplied, allowing English users to have their text translated into Welsh and vice versa - see the link below for more details.
